MAINE MOTORCYCLIST POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE
2008 Candidates Survey Results

Education Not Legislation

The 2008 Candidate’s Survey is now done and tabulated.  While the Maine Motorcyclist Political Action Committee does not endorse any Candidates, we design and tabulate this Survey to give you an idea of where the Candidates of your district stand on the issues affecting motorcycling related issues.  Please take the time to view the responses and voice your choice at voting time.  If you are unsure of your district, contact your local town office.

The Survey also allows us to know who is interested in more information and many candidates also add notes to aid us.  A total of 132 Candidates returned answers to us by the time the survey had to go to print.

Of the respondents 14 hold motorcycle endorsements.  A perfect score to us would have been:

        Question 1: Additional fees-Oppose                                              Question 2: High Speed Chases-Support

        Question 3: Non-triggering traffic signals-Support                     Question 4: Helmet-Oppose

PLEASE REFER TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE FOR ACTUAL WORDING OF EACH QUESTION

The results are as follows:

Oppose                  Support                  Need info               Not Certain

         Question 1                                 117                            0                              11                          1

         Question 2                                 8                              86                            31                          0

         Question 3                                 11                             76                           34                           1

         Question 4                                 91                            18                            17                            1

The MMPAC is listed by the State Ethics Committee and as such represents the over 98,000 people with motorcycle endorsements in the State of Maine.  Anyone with an interest in motorcycling is welcome at our meetings which are held the third Sunday of the month at the Weathervane Restaurant, in Brewer from 1-3.

I would like to especially express my thanks to John Hanson and Kathy Mahon for all the help in producing and tabulating these results.  And a massive thanks to the active participants of the MMPAC who spent months working on the wording and proofreading of the Survey.

Eric Fuller, Chairman
Maine Motorcyclist Political Action Committee
